<p>Deep tropical moisture streaming north from the Gulf is combining&nbsp;with an approaching cold front, setting the stage for widespread showers and thunderstorms from the Gulf Coast into the Southeast. Excessive rainfall will be likely over the next few days. Here is the outlook for Sunday morning.<span style="color: rgb(36, 36, 36)">&nbsp;</span></p><p><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2026/10/PIC 4-1791058401670.png">Sunday’s greatest flooding concern will focus along portions of the central Gulf Coast, including areas from Louisiana east toward the Florida Panhandle.<span style="color: rgb(36, 36, 36)">&nbsp;</span>A tropical wave moving through the Gulf is transporting an unusually moisture-rich air mass toward the coast. Atmospheric moisture levels are expected to reach near-record or record territory for early October in some locations.<span style="color: rgb(36, 36, 36)">&nbsp;</span></p><p><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2026/10/PIC 5-1791058490540.png"></p><h1>Timing</h1><p>After all the heavy rain throughout the Southeast on Saturday, more heavy rain is on the way for the rest of the weekend. Here is a look at the latest timing for all the showers and storms. Flooding will continue to be a big weather risk through early next week for these areas. </p><video src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2026/10/FORECAST-1791058638278.mp4" controls="true" width="100%"></video><p></p><p>Rainfall totals of 3 to 6+ inches are possible Saturday near parts of the Gulf Coast, with locally higher amounts. While some locations entered the weekend with relatively dry ground, rainfall of that magnitude could still overwhelm drainage systems and produce pockets of flash flooding, especially in urban and low-lying areas.<span style="color: rgb(36, 36, 36)">&nbsp;</span></p><p><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2026/10/Screenshot 2026-10-03 065923-1791032949105.png"></p><p>The pattern should begin shifting south by Monday as the front continues moving through the region toward Florida, but flooding concerns will not immediately disappear.<span style="color: rgb(36, 36, 36)">&nbsp;</span>Additional heavy rain will continue to be the focus across southeastern Georgia and northern Florida, including areas around Jacksonville. With some locations already receiving significant rainfall over the weekend, additional downpours could cause isolated flooding.<span style="color: rgb(36, 36, 36)">&nbsp;</span></p><p><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2026/10/Screenshot 2026-10-03 071622-1791033394766.png"></p><p>The unsettled weather will provide beneficial rainfall to some drought-stricken areas of the Southeast, but where rain falls too quickly or repeatedly, the risk of flash flooding will remain a concern through the beginning of the new week.<span style="color: rgb(36, 36, 36)">&nbsp;</span></p><p>The long term forecast keeps the Gulf Coast very soggy into the middle of October. <h1>acific Basin</h1><p><span style="color: rgb(0, 0, 0)">The Pacific Ocean has been incredibly active so far this hurricane season, and it shows no sign of slowing down.</span></p><h2>Rachel</h2><p>Rachel continues to trace the Mexico coastline, moving northwest through the weekend. Some moisture is impacting areas of Mexico.</p><p><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2026/10/PIC 4-1790987224828.png"><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2026/10/PIC 5-1790987233779.png"></p><h1>Atlantic Basin</h1><p><span style="color: rgb(0, 0, 0)">Meanwhile, the Atlantic remains very quiet, as record wind shear continues to tear apart tropical waves moving off Africa. In fact, there is now a new record for the year since there has not been a hurricane formation. This is the first time in 60 years the Atlantic Basin has not seen a hurricane since the satellite era in 1966.</span><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2026/10/1-1790992288843.png"></p><p></p><h1><strong><span style="color: rgb(0, 0, 0)">El Niño Fueling Pacific Activity</span></strong></h1><p><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2026/09/Screenshot 2026-09-22 075045-1790085064967.png"></p><p><span style="color: rgb(0, 0, 0)">The surge in tropical activity comes as El Niño continues to strengthen across the equatorial Pacific. El Niño is characterized by warmer-than-average ocean temperatures across portions of the central and eastern equatorial Pacific. Flood alerts will be limited as of right now, but with saturated grounds, flooding will be possible. Dallas has been breaking heat and dry-condition records in September. Here is a look at the Dallas measurable rain Calendar for September. So many dry days!</p><p><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2026/10/pic4-1790892654472.png">They have shattered the previous record for consecutive days above 90°, with more than 100 in a row! These conditions are important because they will impact the way the ground handles the incoming rainfall. Think of it like a dry sponge. When you turn on the faucet, the water initially runs off. It takes a bit for it to start to absorb. This has equaled a formula of very heavy rainfall. Flood alerts are in place through Thursday across portions of the plains and Midwest. The soils for this part of the country are already very saturated for many. This means adding more rainfall can lead to flooding of rivers, creeks, and streams, and flash flooding is not out of the question.</p><p><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2026/10/PIC 4-1790897782083.png"></p><h2>TIMING</h2><p>Rounds of heavy rain will continue on and off. Isolated areas of flooding will be possible. Friday, this low will move east, and we will see drier conditions by the end of the week.</p><video src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2026/10/FORECAST-1790897919777.mp4" controls="true" width="100%"></video><h2>TOTALS</h2><p>Folks can expect very heavy rainfall, with most seeing around 2"- 4". Some localized areas of a half foot will be possible! Never try to drive through floodwaters, and make sure to take any flood alerts and warnings seriously. Plains & Midwest: Slow Moving Storms Increase Flood Threat

Taban Sharifi grew up in Southern California between Los Angeles and San Diego. She is a Certified Broadcast Meteorologist (CBM) with the American Meteorological Society (AMS). She has a B.S. in Atmospheric, Oceanic, and Environmental Sciences with a minor in Environmental Systems and Society from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). Go Bruins! While in school, Taban was a meteorology intern with NBC LA. There she helped forecast daily weather for the greater Los Angeles region and created a playbook to deploy weather sensors for NBC owned-and-operated stations across the country. Her first on-air job took her to San Angelo, Texas, where she was a morning meteorologist and co-anchor. Working in West Texas gave her knowledge and experience covering severe storms. From there, she moved to Palm Springs, California. People think forecasting in California is sunshine all the time, but with temperatures in the 120’s, wildfires, damaging winds, floodings, and earthquakes, the forecasting kept her very busy! She also worked there as a general assignment reporter and told community stories. Taban is excited for the challenge and opportunity to forecast nationally with WeatherNation. She also looks forward to exploring all that Colorado has to offer!

<p>In the last month, the southwestern states of New Mexico and Arizona have seen their fair share of monsoon showers and storms.</p><div class="twitter-tweet" style="display: flex; justify-content: center" data-twitt-post-id="2103622200872079365" src="https://x.com/WeatherNation/status/2103622200872079365"></div><p>This week, tropical moisture is pushing across the Southwest and plains. This tropical moisture, from Hurricane Polo, will bring the potential for significant flooding across the region.</p><p><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2026/09/poloooo-1790728785495.png"></p><p></p><p>The flooding has already been seen across the Southwest, including Nevada.</p><div class="twitter-tweet" style="display: flex; justify-content: center" data-twitt-post-id="2104753032432910655" src="https://x.com/WeatherNation/status/2104753032432910655"></div><p>A major push of this moisture will continue to move through.. Several more inches on top of what has already come down are expected. This can quickly lead to flash flooding and debris flows, especially over burn scars. The heaviest of the activity, now expected in Colorado and the Central Plains.</p><p><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2026/09/Screenshot 2026-09-30 054240-1790768613194.png">The Weather Prediction Center (WPC) has a <strong>moderate</strong> (level 3 out of 4) flooding threat in place for portions of Colorado and New Mexico. Another Round of Flooding Possible for the Southwest

<p style="margin: 0in; margin-bottom: .0001pt;"><span style="font-size: 13.5pt; color: #454545;">Rob grew up in South Florida, where daily afternoon storms and hurricanes piqued his interest in meteorology early on. That interest was fostered by his teachers and his father, who one time brought him onto the roof of their home to watch a funnel cloud move through the Everglades several miles away. Years of filmmaking and tv production in high school gradually pushed him toward broadcast meteorology at Florida State University, where he joined and eventually led the student run daily weather show. After graduating with a Bachelors of Science in Meteorology, he began his career at KESQ in Palm Springs, California before heading to KFSN in Fresno and WLOS in Asheville, North Carolina. He has covered a diverse array of extreme weather events, including haboobs and flash flooding in the desert, extreme snow in the Sierra, hurricanes, and Appalachian ice storms. He also enjoys telling stories and reporting about weather issues.

<p>Hurricane Nolo spared the Hawaiian Islands from another direct impact this season, instead stalling about 150 miles south of the Big Island before heading west. Heavy rain and wind still impacted the islands, and will continue through the middle of the week as Nolo swings past Kauai. Field correspondent Jonathan Petramala was on the Big Island to bring us those impacts over the weekend.</p><video src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2026/09/LL_TRT 1.14_JP GIVES UPDATE ON NOLO_MS_E092626-1790520644996.mp4" controls="true" width="100%"></video><h1>Forecast / Impacts</h1><p>Nolo's impacts, including flooding, are not done with yet for the Hawaiian Islands. As Nolo heads north through the midweek, heavy rain on it's eastern side will hit the western Hawaiian Islands. 3-5 inches of rain could fall on Kauai, bringing flooding to the region. Kauai sustained a  lot of damage just a few weeks back as Hurricane Lowell passed the island barely to the west.</p><p><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2026/09/Screenshot 2026-09-28 074803-1790603893032.png"></p><p>Nolo looks to stall for a day as it then slowly heads farther west, keeping some rain and wind impacts around through at least Thursday. </p><p><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2026/09/Screenshot 2026-09-28 074651-1790603234688.png"></p><video src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2026/09/forecassssssss-1790557751613.mp4" controls="true" width="100%"></video><p></p><h2>Wind / Waves</h2><p>As Nolo tracks west, wave heights will still be on the high side, bringing hazards to boaters and beach goers. Nolo Moving West; Flooding Still Possible on Kauai

<p>A Nor'easter...in September? While most people think of winter when it comes to these intense coastal storms, they can happen in the fall. The impacts will only be a little different, mainly with heavy rain instead of snow, but coastal flooding, huge surf, and strong winds will continue to create significant hazards.</p><div class="twitter-tweet" style="display: flex; justify-content: center" data-twitt-post-id="2104308771745083644" src="https://x.com/WeatherNation/status/2104308771745083644"></div><p>Winds across the northeast have reached over 60 mph in some areas.</p><p><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2026/09/Screenshot 2026-09-27 145019-1790542232428.png">Some of the greatest concerns were along the Mid-Atlantic coastline, where repeated high-tide cycles sent water into neighborhoods and businesses and washed out roadways. Communities that frequently experience tidal flooding like Bethany Beach saw conditions worsen as the storm churned offshore.<span style="color: rgb(36, 36, 36)">&nbsp;</span></p><div class="twitter-tweet" style="display: flex; justify-content: center" data-twitt-post-id="2103462018682703967" src="https://x.com/WeatherNation/status/2103462018682703967"></div><p><span style="color: rgb(36, 36, 36)">The impacts of this nor'easter will be winding down today, but </span><strong>Coastal Flood Warnings </strong>and <strong>Advisories</strong> do remain in effect through the day, some through early Tuesday.</p><p><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2026/09/through tuesdayyy-1790619954527.png">The immediate coastal flooding was quickly made worse as heavy rain dumped along the Northeast coast by the weekend.</p><p><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2026/09/WEB 1-1790601969107.png"><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2026/09/forecassss-1790620092951.png"> As the low weakens and stalls, the rain should break up and become less heavy through today. Lingering gusty winds, light rain, and strong surf are expected to last into early Tuesday as the low moves out of New England.</p><video src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2026/09/noreassss-1790620031568.mp4" controls="true" width="100%"></video><p>Conditions should gradually improve as the storm weakens and moves away from the coast Monday, and more so Tuesday. Powerful Nor’easter Slams East Coast over the Weekend

Alana Cameron was born and raised in Canada in the city of Mississauga, just outside of Toronto. Alana is the oldest of 4 siblings, all close in age, and grew up playing outside with them in all types of weather. After graduating high school, Alana moved to study at the University of British Columbia in Kelowna for a year before transferring to Dalhousie University in Halifax, Nova Scotia where she completed a Bachelor of Science in Physics and Atmospheric Science. Upon completion, Alana moved back to Toronto where she completed a post-grad degree in Meteorology at York University. After her post-grad, she went on to complete another post-grad in Broadcast Journalism - TV News at Fanshawe College in London, Ontario. During her final year of studies she had the privilege of interning with the best in the business in Canada at The Weather Network. Once she finished her internship, she got the call from small-town Denison, Texas where she accepted a job as an on-air meteorologist at KTEN-TV, right in tornado alley, covering severe weather from Sherman/Denison (North Texas) to Ada (Southern Oklahoma). After the most active tornado season Oklahoma had seen in May 2019 (105 tornadoes!) Alana is excited to join WeatherNation to cover weather all across the nation. <p>A stalled frontal boundary on Saturday brought training rainfall and flash flooding to many states in the northeast, including portions of Pennsylvania where radar-estimated totals brought down 6-7" of rainfall in a 6-hour period. This caused flash flood warnings and scenes like this in Clarks Summit, PA late Saturday.</p><div class="twitter-tweet" style="display: flex; justify-content: center" data-twitt-post-id="1700841550006083714" src="https://twitter.com/WeatherNation/status/1700841550006083714?s=20"></div><p>The rain this weekend has been the cause of weather delays in places like Yankee Stadium, where the baseball game was delayed for 2 hours.</p><div class="twitter-tweet" style="display: flex; justify-content: center" data-twitt-post-id="1700667905363648839" src="https://twitter.com/WeatherNation/status/1700667905363648839?s=20"></div><p>More rain is on the way for the northeast through Monday. The upside to this rain has been putting our heat wave to rest. Temperatures remain noticeably cooler this weekend. The stalled-out front that has caused flooding and ongoing flood alerts across the Appalachian region will slowly start to move east through the overnight hours and into Monday.</p><video src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2023/09/east-1694391743049.mp4" controls="true" width="100%"></video><p>Another upper-level low will swing through by the middle of the week. This is expected to bring more rainfall to the region.
